Gorges du Verdon et lac de Sainte-Croix

Between the Alpes de Haute Provence and the Var, Gorges du Verdon is an exceptional natural site with its gigantic character and breathtaking landscapes.

The Gorges du Verdon canyon is located between Castellane and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. The road of the ridges allows to discover the gorges seen from above and its majestic landscapes. The height of the cliffs can reach up to 750m and many stops allow to appreciate the views.

Villages like Rougon or La Palud are starting points for hikings that will take you, for some, to the banks of the river. Do not miss to observe the fauna, many birds nest in the canyon, it is notably a privileged place for vultures.

In addition to the hiking trails, a large number of activities are offered to discover this wonderful site : from pedal boat rental to paragliding, canyoning, and even climbing ; you choose your own way of discovering…
The Pont du Galetas spans the Verdon at the exit of the gorges, making the junction between the departments of the Var and the Alpes-de-haute-Provence, and offering a postcard view. From here lies the Lac de Sainte-Croix, an ideal setting to continue your journey : family swimming, sailing and windsurfing.

Continuing along the road, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is a beautiful village very pleasant to visit. You can discover earthenware shops and regional products, enjoy an ice cream or settle in one of the many terraces of restaurants. Between the high heat and the high altitude of the access road, the visit of the chapel Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir is deserved but the view is amazing !

From Moustiers, a few more kilometres will take you to the Valensole plateau. It is between June and July that lavender fields are adorned with shades of purple as far as the eye can see for the greatest pleasure.
